Frequently Asked Questions
How soon before my wedding day should I book my bridal hair stylist?
Do I need to book a hair trial with my wedding hair stylist?
Yes, absolutely. This is so important as the hair style you choose may not work with your type of hair and you may not actually like it on you! We need to ‘get to know’ your hair and have time to work out what is needed with product and tools to achieve your desired style.
It takes away huge stress on the morning, and this is when you want to relax and enjoy every single second! It’s also good to see how the style lasts for the day. If there are any changes in thought, this needs to be fed back to us, ideally, within 48 hours after the trial so then we can work out a new route to achieve your dream style, may it be something different!
Where will the wedding trial take place and how long will we need?
This is at my home in Cheltenham, or if you go with one of my team, it will take place at one of their homes. We’ll need around 2 hours together for the bride and an hour and a half for bridesmaid / mother of the bride / groom, or guest.
I will make sure you receive some advice on how to prepare, what to bring etc prior to us meeting and of course, where to arrive to. We want to make sure we can create the full picture, so to wear a similar shade to your white dress and similar neckline would be ideal and bring your accessories with you (veil etc). If you have booked my fellow makeup artist for your day too, then we will make sure your trial is done together and we’ll allow 3.5hrs.
Can I bring someone with me to the trial?
This is not a problem at all, but I do strongly advise to be absolutely 100% clear on what you want. As the classic saying goes, too many cooks etc… with other people’s opinions in the mix, you may walk away feeling more confused than actually feeling great!
What if I decide I don’t like the hair style that I’ve requested during my trial?
This is why the trial is so important. What you see in the picture, you may not like on yourself and also, you may find it won’t go with the dress you’ve chosen: It could be the dress is very detailed and in fact you want your hair to be more relaxed, or vice-versa, it may be that you have a sheer and classic style and you do want something more for your hair, including accessories.
So, it’s so important to really think about the whole outfit together and to come with an open mind too. We have worked with so many brides with so many different visions, we will also be able to advise.
How long do I need to factor in my wedding morning timeline for my hair (and my wedding party’s) to be styled?
We allow up to 1.5hrs for the bride and 45 minutes for bridesmaids and mother of the bride / groom. Sometimes, we may need extra time with the bride if we are to achieve a Hollywood wave, but we discuss all of this on your trial. I will put together a schedule for you to have on your wedding morning.
On the trial we will also cover whose hair holds the curl the least well, as we will need to make sure they go pretty much last in the schedule. We also like to keep the bride second to last, so we can make sure she is looking 100% her best!
Do I need to tip my bridal hairstylist?
No. This is not an expectation at all.
Will I be getting you on my wedding morning, or one of your team?
This will be known at the time of your enquiry. If you have requested me and I am already booked, then I will let you know who out of my fabulous team is available and then you can make the choice on who you’d like by viewing their styles on my website.
Will you come to my venue on the morning of the wedding, and do I need to pay for travel expenses?
Yes, we travel to you where you will be getting ready. I have a Wedding Details Form that will go out to you prior to your wedding, which will ask questions, such as the getting ready location, as this may be different to the wedding venue. It also asks for contact details for someone other than yourself as we don’t want to bother you with any little questions on your morning – it’s always good to make sure you have your Maid of Honour or mum to take on these roles on YOUR day!
We cover a 15-mile radius and if we go over this, we charge 0.65p per mile thereafter.
In which order should I / my bridesmaids get their hair done on the morning?
Ah, just to recap and just so you can visualise the morning schedule, we would normally have the bridesmaid, who’s hair holds the curl the least well, (if she is having a down style or half up/down style) to go very last. We like the bride to be second to last.
The schedule that I set out always gives you an hour of spare time before the ceremony, so if your ceremony is 2pm, we complete all styles by 1pm. This last hour evaporates, literally! So, with the schedule I plan, the bride has 1.45hrs to put her dress and shoes on, apply her perfume, apply her veil, have some special moments, such as the reveal to dad, or someone else that is important to her. You will also need to make sure the bouquet stems are dried off so to not get the dresses wet and to have a discussion on your walk speed, recap on order of bridesmaids etc, etc.
Hair and makeup will also want to do some last minute ‘touch ups’ too. You’ve got to look and feel the best you’re ever going to feel in your life!

Which should I have done first on my wedding morning, my hair or my makeup?
There’s no set rule and most of us are familiar with one another so we can work around what will work. Sometimes, it is better for hair to go after makeup if the style means that the makeup artist needs to pin the fringe or face framing pieces of hair back, as obviously, we don’t want to flatten or kink the style that has been created.
Should I wash my hair the night before the wedding or on the morning of?
I do like to have fresh and clean hair for styling. The reason being is because it responds better to products and styling tools. If you think in a logical way, hair that has a build-up of natural oils means it will get heavy – it will be pulled down.
There’s a lot of ‘behind the scenes’ effort put into styles to make sure we give the volume and the longevity to a style. If we are putting, for instance, volumising powder over oils it could just drag it down more, but also the appearance and result won’t make the hair look freshly styled and it just won’t last as long.
On the other side though, if you have curly hair, this needs to be discussed prior to the trial and I always offer a screen call if you have any hair concerns prior to our meet so we can make sure our couple of hours together will be constructively used.
I’m thinking of having a completely new style for the wedding – is this advisable or should I stick with how I usually ‘wear’ my hair?
A lot of my requests are, “to have a style but to still be me”. I generally advise, to feel like you, you keep your parting the same, don’t try to change or go against it. All of this can be worked out on the trial and to see what you’re comfortable with.
For example, I had a lovely bride that wanted a Hollywood wave and with height in the fringe. We did stick to her side parting, but without using a lot of product, the height would not stay, so we decided to go the opposite side and we had beautiful height and my bride was 100% comfortable going the other way. So, if you are comfortable doing this, let’s try it.
Another concern I have is that ‘I don’t like my ears’, so we can make sure we have options in making sure your hair is draped, covering your ears. The trial is so important to do prior to your day, we can’t skip it.
If I’m wearing a veil, should I have my hair up or down?
Either, or. It really doesn’t make a difference. I just need to know so then if hair is going up, I will avoid putting so many grips into where it will slide in and if down, I will make sure I create a holding place for it to go into.”
What happens if you’re ill or can’t make it on my wedding day?
This is not a job where we can phone in sick. We make every effort in making sure we will be with you on your day. However, if it is a situation where it is impossible, I have my regular team to back me up. I also then have further contacts that I call on if my team are all booked up and my network within the industry is big enough to call on shall the situation arise.
It is a pretty special industry to be in as although most of us are self-employed, we have a regular group that have teams too and we are all very supportive to one another.
Will you be able to use my accessories that I provide to finish my hair style or will I need to put these in myself?
I will be with you until the very last minute before you walk down that aisle! Yes, I will place the hair accessories and your veil too, which will always go in last.
Can you stay on the day if I’m having an alternative ‘evening look’?
Yes absolutely, we do offer an evening service and is a request that happens quite often.
